Thankful Thursday

Today I'm just thinking about a few things that I am thankful for. Some huge things, some simple things, but all in all, still parts of my life that I'm thankful for.

I'm thankful for Sprite Zero, I have one with my lunch each day at work, I love sprite and it gives me a "pop" feel without the calories, win!

I'm thankful for having a coat. It's cold out there, y'all!

I'm thankful for friendships. I am starting a new devotion book with two of my friends and I am glad that I have a bond with these 2 girls.

I'm thankful for surprises. How boring would life be if everything was expected?!

I'm thankful to know that God has a plan for my life... even though I'm a planner, it's nice to know that I'm not in complete control, because honestly, sometimes my plan isn't the best plan.... I'm working on realizing that in all situations.

I'm thankful to have a job that I enjoy doing and what I went to school for.

I'm thankful for a supportive husband.

I'm thankful that we have 2 wonderful "sides" family.

I'm thankful for a forgiving Savior.

Deer and Dog

It's Wednesday, we're half way through the week, people! Not only is it hump day, it's snow day... so I am home today with Chloe girl.  The morning has started slowly and I think the rest of today will include cleaning our house, repainting my nails, and then going to church this evening.  That's one great thing unexpected days off, you can kind of do what you want because you weren't supposed to have it off...well, that's how I look at it anyways.
It started snowing yesterday afternoon and didn't stop until night.  I got home from work, parked at the bottom of our hill, and walked up (in flats, again).  We spent the evening in and didn't do a whole lot.  We saw a few deer outside and then after getting a picture I decided to take a few pictures of Chloe, I just love her!
Also, I got my SLR camera last year, but if anyone has any good tips on how to use which setting for what, it'd be appreciated!

Excuse my tshirt and robe :)

"Seriously, mom... no more pictures!"

Wonderful Weekend: Spontaneous trip to Lexington

Well, the weekend recap didn't make it up on Monday, but just one day later isn't too bad is it?  This past weekend, Preston and I didn't have anything planned.  On Friday before work I was talking to my mom about their weekend plans and I found out my sister had a cheer competition in Lexington.  After thinking about it for a little while, by mid afternoon I planned to meet my parents and then head to Lexington after work.  We made it to Lexington Friday night around 9.

Saturday was the cheer competition so we were up early and got ready to head to the college where it was held.  It had snowed some Friday night.  Since Lexington is a big city, we thought for sure they would be good about clearing the roads.... boy were we wrong.  One of the main roads that runs straight through everything in Lexington was still covered in snow, traffic was the slowest moving I have ever seen it there.  No lines were visible and the snow was still coming down.  Here is a picture from a side road when we were heading to get some breakfast before the competition.

I know it's not as much as some of you readers, but I hadn't had this kind of snow on the road in a long time. When we came out of the competition, the roads were nice and clear... maybe a 1:30 UK basketball game had something to do with it?  Idk, couldn't help but wonder about it though.

Anyways, the competition was good, Brinley's squad did great, and of course, she looked like a flipping, flopping, flying, toe touching, hand springing, cheerleader that she is.

After the competition we got some linner (late lunch early dinner) and then after stopping back at my brother's house, we were back on the road and heading home.  We needed to get home as it was supposed to start snowing again.  Saturday night I planned on going back home, but since it was dark and roads were freezing, we all thought it was best if I stayed the night at my parents' house... good thing I brought clothes for church just in case that were to happen!

Sunday I went to the early service at church with my family.  It was nice to see people I hadn't seen in a while.  I left straight from church and headed home and an hour later I was back in my living room... talk about a quick trip to Lexington and back! Preston and I went out to lunch with friends and then I enjoyed a Sunday nap with Chloe girl.  While I napped, Preston was so great and washed my car to get all the salt from the roads off of it, it was so disgusting but he made it look shiny and clean.  After church Sunday night we did our weekly grocery shopping and then called it a night.

We had a pretty good weekend and we're already looking forward to the next one... I must say, I am looking forward to warmer weekends including some time outside and grilling.  Beginning to feel "over" winter.  Hope everyone has a great week!

5 on Friday!

Whoohoo for Friday! Linking up with the Good Life Blog for Five on Friday…

[ONE] It snowed this week, probably the most we’ve got this winter, about 4 inches. I know that is not near what some people have got… but I did enjoy the snow day I got off work!

[TWO] Flats are NOT the best snow shoes… I guess I didn’t realize how much was predicted because walking our hill in these in the snow was not fun and my toes were practically frozen.

[THREE] Preston and I made snow cream. Believe it or not, Preston had never had it before. We all liked it… Chloe had some too. We put plain snow in her bowl to see if she would eat it, nope turned her nose because it wasn’t sweet, spoiled?

[FOUR] Speaking of Chloe, we enjoyed major play time with her one evening this week and she was too cute playing with her chicken.. and her duck… and her puff, this dog has too many toys. She was panting like crazy by the end of it.

[FIVE] I painted my nails and did a little at home mani at the beginning of this week. I used a new color I got last week, O.P.I. “I Theodora You”. I like it because it is simple, yet pretty..win!

Memphis: Graceland!

Hello Friends!

I want to post my last few thoughts from Memphis, simply so that I won't forget it and can look back to this post... Friday after the training concluded, we went to Graceland!  I didn't know much about Elvis before going, but I definitely know a little bit now... like that his plane was named after his one and only daughter. Most people probably already know about things before I saw them, but it was all new to me.  I think one of the best things I learned was that even after doing shows, and sometimes double shows, Elvis and his crew would go back to the hotel room and would all sing gospel music.  I also learned that Elvis gave his mother anything she could ever need, or want.  Anyways, I don't have a whole lot to say about it, but here are pictures!

Memphis: Part 2 (MLK Day)

Happy Monday, friends!  It's a very happy Monday for me, as I survived the drive back from Memphis and now I am enjoying a day off from work for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday today.  It sure is nice to have a day off after being gone for a week.

Anyways, while we were in Memphis, we went to the Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine motel. What better day than today to post about this visit? It was so neat to see this historical site and all of the artifacts with it.  I'm not sure if you already know or not, but the Lorraine is where MLK was killed by a shooter.  We were able to see where the shooter was, which was across Mulberry street in a bathroom that had clear view of the balcony where MLK was standing. The window that the shooter had cracked for his rifle is still cracked today.  We also went up to the balcony where MLK last stood before being shot, he had stayed in room 306, which was were he often stayed when in Memphis.  Being there in the exact place made the historical moment of time real.  It was quite remarkable to see exactly how the event happened.  Of course in school, I learned about MLK, but seeing and reading about location, artifacts, etc. gave me a deeper understanding.

On Friday of our trip, we went to Graceland.  I've never been a huge Elvis fan, but it was fun to tour the mansion and see lots of Elvis' "stuff"... more on that next post, but for now I will leave you with this:

Memphis!

Well,  this week there's not a post dedicated to the usual weekend recap for 2 reasons.  1) Our weekend consisted of cleaning and me packing, and 2) I was on the road for 10 hours to get to Memphis on Sunday for the training I am attending for work this week.  Thankfully a coworker came to the training as well so I didn't have to drive the trip, or see Memphis, alone!
The training I am here for is to learn about leading correctional counseling, I'll particularly be leading a group for teens with substance abuse issues.  It's only day 2 of day 5 of the training and I've learned a ton, which was the purpose, but I've also had a great time in Germantown/Memphis, TN.
Sunday we got here, checked in to our hotel, grabbed some dinner at Macaroni Grill, and called it a night.
Monday we had training all day, had some homework, and then went out to Bonefish Grill.... yum!  After Bonefish we went to Ulta where I scored some great deals.  I have been wanting Urban Decay eyeshadow primer, online it's on sale for $10 but shipping was $8 so I didn't get it.  In store it was still $10, so I bought 2 tubes of it, plus some oh so good smelling shampoo and conditioner and 2 bottles of OPI nail polish, I was too excited about my new products.  After a stop at Homegoods, it was back to the hotel.
That brings us to today... had training until noon and then headed to down town Memphis.  We had lunch at BB King's, and then saw some interesting things around the city.  The Peabody Hotel is so gorgeous inside and their famous ducks are so neat!  Here are some pictures from our day, mainly checking out Beale Street.

You know it's a fancy hotel when toilets have their own lamps, haha, too funny.

We are going back into the city on Thursday, hoping to tour Graceland and the civil rights museum.
Hope everyone is having a great week!
