Wonderful Weekends: Movies, Tradition, and Family

Okay, so maybe the title of this post was a little deceiving, you may think my family has a tradition to watch movies or something like that, but that's totally wrong. Instead, those are each pieces of our previous weekend.

On Friday, we had planned to go to Kentucky, but due to nasty weather, we decided to wait. Instead, we decided to meet friends at the movies and we watched "Heaven is For Real".  Have you seen the movie, what did you think?  I had already read the book a few years ago so I was really looking forward to the movie... and I enjoyed it. So my personal opinion, it's a great family movie to watch.  Currently playing in our theater is "God's Not Dead".  I've heard it's a great movie, so we're wanting to maybe watch it this week.  Before we moved to our current location, going to the movies was so expensive ($40) for the two of us.  That's not the case now, as adult tickets are only $3.50 and that's the regular show times, not matinee... score!  We also live within walking distance to the theater so I am seeing walks to the movies in the summer.  After the movie we went to grab some dinner, made a quick stop at the grocery store and then headed home.

Saturday morning we got up and headed to Kentucky for Hillbilly Days.  Hillbilly Days has been around for as long as I can remember, it is a festival every April in my hometown, that attracts about 100,000 people.  Vendors, carnival, crafts, and what not.  I got my yearly chicken gyro and a few small hairbows for Chloe girl.... she looks sassy in cheetah, haha! We met up with my cousins who were also visiting, we enjoyed spending time with them while walking around and watching part of the parade.  After a few hours, we left and stopped by my grandparents house for a visit and then to my parents house to visit and pick up Chloe (we had dropped her off before). It was a great day and we headed home that night.  I am not quite sure why, but that night when we got home, I decided to clean the house... probably so we wouldn't have to on Sunday.

Sunday we went to church, and I must add, I was super comfy in a dress I bought last year at JCP for $5.  After church I grilled brats outside... yes I, and it's noteworthy because normally Preston is the one that does all the grilling, but I gave it a shot.  Lunch was followed by a fantastic and much needed nap.  We had church that evening and then enjoyed being at home the rest of the day.

It was a great weekend and I'm already looking forward to the next one, which will include softball and prom, stay tuned!

Wonderful Weekends: He's Risen!

These days, weekends really are wonderful. I must say, I am glad to have a job that I have a steady schedule and I know that I have the weekend to look forward to during the work week. So let's rewind to last Friday.

Friday after work, I went straight to get some exercise in.  After that it was home to get ready and then to our church Easter drama.  Nana and Pawpaw came to the play Friday evening, so it was nice to see them.  The play had a good crowd and was excellent.

Saturday morning we slept in a little bit, got caught up on laundry, and did a few things around the house.  Oh, and we made a big breakfast, which we hadn't done in a long time.  Saturday evening was the second show for the Easter play, it was great to have my in laws and part of my family in for a visit Saturday.  We didn't do a whole lot after the play since it was late (the play lasted 2 hours).

Sunday we put on our Easter clothes and headed to church.  We had an Easter egg hunt with the kiddos from church afterwards, which was fun.  The girl and boy winner for the most eggs found were so excited! Preston and I had Easter dinner at home, I decided to make one of our favorite meals, cheddar chicken broccoli braid, you can find the recipe here. I usually make a few adjustments to the recipe, we like it every time! I had been congested since Saturday, likely due to allergies.  So, Sunday after lunch I took some allergy meds and had a nap, only to wake up for a little while, and go back to sleep.  Then I woke up and watched half a movie and went to bed for the night.  The good news is Monday when I woke up it wasn't as bad as it had been.

So that's our weekend.  I really enjoyed seeing our church Easter drama... I hope it was an outreach to people in the community that came to watch.  So grateful for a Savior that has done and gives more than we could ever deserve, so blessed!

Finish This Link-Up

Woohoo, it's Thursday!! I have kind of been in a "writing rut" and not sure what to write about. After seeing Amanda's post with this link up, I decided to join in!

My favorite vacation spot
Well, I love cruises, so I guess I could call the Carribean my favorite vaction spot, and out of those, I really loved Grand Cayman Island. The water is so beautiful there! I also really loved our trip to the Outerbanks in North Carolina, love all the light houses there!

If I won a million dollars....
It's nice to dream if that would happen, I would give part to the church or missions, pay off student loans, get Preston a new vehicle, buy a house, decorate said house, save, and I'm sure I'd enjoy a little shopping.

If I could go on a celebrity date...
Okay, let's be honest, I don't know who a lot of celebrities are. Maybe I don't pay attention when I watch t.v. or movies, I'm not sure. Brad Pitt could be next to me and I'd not have a clue who he is. But, one actor I do know of is Patrick Dempsey (is that even spelled right?) so I suppose I would choose him.

If I had a genie in a bottle with three wishes...
1. I would wish people could just be nice, think how different it would be if everyone were nice and kind.
2. I would wish that there wasn't as many difficulties in my job field.
3. I would wish for... well, I'm not sure, we all know the likelihood of this happening so I don't normally just sit and ponder about wishes. ;)

My favorite clothing item is...
Not sure if it's my favorite, but I can put a cardigan with just about anything... but I also love my sandals so it's a toss up!

Well that link-up was fun, join in on it!

Spring Flowers: Picture Overload!

Hello, everybody!  I have had so much fun with our Spring flowers that have bloomed, driving up our drive way after work and seeing them just makes my day.  It might be due to the fact that I've actually kept something alive and got them to bloom... or because they are just really pretty, either way I love them!  If you have been around awhile, you might remember this weekend post from when we built our flower box.  It is so great to see our hard work from last fall pay off!  This past weekend, I thought the flowers were looking particularly beautiful (even though more have bloomed since taking these photos) so I decided to get out my camera and practice taking some manual shots... I'm loving how they turned out, now for a picture over load!

Obviously Chloe wasn't in a picture taking mood

Midweek Ramblings: It's Spring!

Wednesday is here... Spring is here... and I am loving both! You see, Wednesday and Friday at work at casual days and it just makes it much easier getting to wear jeans rather than dress slacks. I'm sure once the warm weather is here to stay, skirts and dresses will be enjoyable, but for today, my jeans have made me happy. Anyways, if you can't already tell, this is kind of a random post with a bunch of thoughts, sooo... why not use bullets? Sounds like a great idea to me!

* It is supposed to be 75* here today, which is glorious.. absolutely looking forward to it, especially since I worked late yesterday when it was nice.

*Speaking of the weather, it seems that Spring has finally came. Warmer weather and thunder storms in the forecast... sounds like Spring to me.

* What I'm loving about Spring right now is flowers. If you follow me on IG, you may have seen my pictures of our flowers blooming, I may be overly excited, but you guys, I usually kill plants so to see my bulbs coming up is awesome to me! I'm definitely hooked! I love seeing the different colors by our walk way.

*I'm wanting to do a craft, I am thinking maybe a burlap wreath and painting numbers for the front of our house.. maybe. Have you done a Spring craft, suggestions are welcomed.

*I have on a pair of new Reef flip flops today, can someone tell me why the shoe store put the sticky price label right where my heel goes so that the adhesive sticks to me?

*We are starting a new thing for church on Sunday with the kiddos and I am looking forward to it, I really think it will be great.

*I'm ready for a mini vacation away, problem is we don't have time right now. So, that's on hold.

*I've done good sticking to my workout plan this week, working on getting the next 10 pounds off...when I do, I'm rewarding myself with new shoes, so lose lose lose! Ha, that rhymed.

*Speaking of working out, I've entertained the idea of trying to start running.. maybe, I can't really believe I just said that. I'm not a runner, never have been, but I know it is good for your body and I've seen the difference it can make in several people.... so for you runners out there, any tips to help me get started?

Okay, now that I've got some of these random thoughts out of my head, maybe I can focus a little more. That's enough from me for now, what are you guys thinking lately?
